Dog Meets World Foto of the Week: Cape Town, South Africa

by Carolyn Lane / Jun 02, 2010 / 0 comments

Some young people are unbelievably generous with their time, are almost born altruists. Meet Samm Coffin, a study abroad student at Stellenbosch University, outside of Cape Town, South Africa. While adjusting to a foreign country and taking a full load of courses Samm immediately volunteered to help make a difference including working at an afterschool program and taking hundreds of pictures for Dog Meets World (DMW) at Kayamandi. She also worked at a local Habitat for Humanity build and took along the mascot of DMW, Foto the dog, and the printer and shared first photos for the new homeowner!

Samm is intending to become an official long-distance intern for DMW upon her return to UMass-Dartmouth, but not before her trip to Zambia, where she toted the project and handed out more pictures! Samm said "It was an incredible experience realizing that almost no one in these villages had seen photographs of them, never mind received one to keep. It was extremely rewarding to hand over these photographs to very thankful people."
