Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park

There is a reason why it is considered to be part of the 100 Things To See Before You Die. If you are ever in the state of Michigan, the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids is something you don’t want to miss out on. There are 132 acres of sculptures, history, and horticulture, making it quite an eventful and successful day. There are also 5 interactive acres of Lena Meijer Children Garden, which makes it fun for the entire family. However even with no children, we were still able to find plenty of fun in the children’s garden.

Having been there several times before over the years, I thought it would be exciting to look at the new Christmas trees on display from all over the world.

Now being more of the garden and nature lover myself, it took forever to get me to leave the three indoor gardens, as I am always fascinated by the exotic orchids, trees, cacti, and many other plant life. There was even a moment where my full and undivided attention was focused on sneaking up on a quail as I tried to get a good shot with my camera (Which ended up as a failure for there was much more of the garden to be explored and we didn't want to spend the entire time annoying the birds).

As soon as we were outside, we headed on the tour to see all the different sculptures in the park. The tour lasted about forty-five minutes as we listened to our guide give us quick fun facts about each sculpture and the history about Frederik Meijer Gardens. After that, we decided to go for a walk and finish seeing the sculptures that the tour had missed. It was incredible how different the scenery was in the fall than the times I had went in the spring and summer, giving everything a different sense of feeling.
