Apps - they are an ubiquitous part of our daily lives. And yet, travel apps are very useful for us - to learn, save money, and explore the world. You can find all kinds of apps, from health travel to budget travel to  games (pokemon go!).

With the ability for travel and tech entrepreneurs to find an app builder tool that is as easy to use as a typical spreadsheet, the number of apps in the world has grown exponentially. This is a boon for us travelers, in that it can make all aspects of our journeys easier and more fun.

21 Travel Apps That Can Make Your Journeys Easier and More Fun

Here are 21 of my favorite travel apps:

Google Trips
We LOVE Google Trips! It makes exploring the world easier by organizing your essential info in one place and making it available even offline. Get activity suggestions based on what’s nearby, customizeable day plans, and your travel reservations from Gmail.

Google Maps and CityMapper
Both offer maps and problem areas (traffic, etc.). Citymapper is available for 30 cities, globally.

Flight Stats
FlightStats is a free real-time flight status and airport tracking application for iPhone and Apple Watch.

Flight Aware
This app gives you real-time flight tracking and airport delays.

My TSA
My TSA provides 24/7 access to air travel information, such as airport delays.

SAS
You never know when you'll need survival skills. And, if you've got a signal, you'll have a solution. For over twenty years, the SAS Survival Guide has been the definitive guide to surviving any situation, anywhere in the world. Based on the million-copy bestselling book.

GasBuddy
We use this app at home, and while we travel. It can save you a lot of money by pinpointing where the least expensive gas is, in your location.

Google Translate and Word Lens
These apps let you hover your camera over some text, and will translate it for you. GENIUS.

XE
Currency conversion - always a good thing.

Yuggler
This app helps you find kid-friendly things near you. It's a Parents’ Choice Approved Award winner and Webby Awards Honoree for discovering fresh ideas for kids activities.

Toilet Finder and Flush
Both apps help you find the closest bathroom. Worried about cleanliness? Use the Sit or Squat app. It's hilarious (and very useful).

Spotted By Locals
I love their site, Spotted by Locals, and SBL has city guides for over 65 cities. It's the best of the best, from locals! Available for European, North American, and Middle Eastern cities.

Whatsapp and Skype
Both utilize wifi to provide you with free calls!

Waze
Are you driving? Use this app to find the best (and worst) traffic conditions.

Rome2Rio
Discover how to get anywhere by plane, train, bus, ferry, and automobile.

momondo
This app offers flight and hotel searches, as well as booking. Their places app offers local tips and city guides.

Wolfram Sun Exposure Reference App
As a redhead, this is really important to me! It calculates how long your skin can be exposed to the Sun without burning based on your skin type, location, time, and the level of Sun protection factor (SPF) you are using.
