How to get the most out of travelling

The thing is, it’s not all about the places you explore, but also how you get to each them. If you tried exploring say, 3 cities within a week, you might find yourself travelling for 4 days of that week. Enjoying your transport is so important to your experience and memories.

You may find yourself having a drink with locals on an overnight train to Prague, or you might indulge in luxury and travel by Private Jet to Germany and the whole world

That’s the thing, you can get incredible experiences from both ends of the spectrum. Some of the roughest and most basic forms of travel can often be the source of interacting with other travelers and experiencing it together. This goes for even disastrous trips, such as a breakdown and having to hitchhike the rest of the way. You often find the most memorable moments stemming from things not going as planned.

Likewise, enduring uncomfortable and unpredictable forms of getting around is actually encouraged by many for this reason. Enduring a difficult set of events or having to improvise your way out of situations can create close bonds with those around you.

On the other end of the scale, getting around can be a thing of beauty and luxury. Chartering a private jet or going on an all inclusive cruise may set you back a few thousand dollars, but it certainly leaves lasting memories. Many of us write off high forms of luxury because we’re not the sort of people that can do it regularly. There is something to say though for saving up and doing a “once in a lifetime” thing like that, though.

Afterall, travelling is about having a broad range of experiences. Overnight trains can provide many unique experiences and may never get boring, but it’s still limited to what it is. There are still many things you’re missing out on. You’re never going to see the gorgeous blue waters from a birds’ eye view, or sip on endless complimentary cocktails.

The mistake to make is to write off these forms of travelling as shallow. Sure, limiting yourself to only luxury travel is perhaps shallow, but the key here is to not limit yourself. They key is to vary it up as much as possible.

If you can really make the transportation side of travelling a meaningful experience, then you’ve really maxed out on your experience potential. Suddenly a three-city trip inside a week is packed full of fun and insight, as opposed to spending half the time clock-watching.

Many will suggest that 3 cities is too much for a week-long trip — and they’re not wrong. Seeing as many different places and cultures is certainly on the agenda, but you’ll never fully experience them. You’ll be in each place long enough to figure out what you want to do and see, without having the actual time to do and see them.

But, whilst there’s some things to learn on how to travel better, the most important thing is to just learn how to be in the present moment and take it all in. Whether you’re stuck waiting in an airport or you’re in a local bar on a paradise beach — you should never be waiting for your next destination.
