Hunting Northern Lights Above the Arctic Circle: Local Experts Guide You There
Have you always dreamed of finding and photographing Northern Lights, especially above the Artic Circle? Perhaps you've loved the articles by our Northern Norway Editor, Benny Høynes, including his guide to photographing Northern Lights? Now you can learn from and watch northern lights with him! With three friends, Benny has created a unique travel opportunity.
Vesterålen Tours, founded in 05.12.17, is an extraordinary tour experience for hunting northern lights.
Your Local Guides:
Marius Birkeland, photoguide and chairman, 14 years hunting the northern lights
Jens Andre Birkeland, photoguide and board member, 4 years hunting the northern lights
Benny Høynes, photoguide, 6 years hunting the northern lights
Kai Antonsen, photguide, 5 years hunting the northern lights
I asked Benny how Vesterålen Tours came to be. He noted that the idea of VT started with a short conversation between Marius and Jens Andre, under a geo-magnetic storm.
– Think how many that never get to see the northern lights and the and unique arctic landscape.
– We have local knowledge of the weather and know the prime spots. We also the experience needed to predict were to go for the best chance to see the lights. We could start a firm offering that.
– Let's do it!
Some calls later, we four agreed to start up.
Heading to Northern Norway? Take a Northern lights tour:
We are offering guided northern-lights tours on the Vesterålen islands and some parts of Lofoten in autumn and winter season, as well as tours for the midnight sun in the summer.
Wildlife photoguiding all year round, although springtime visits are recommended since all animals are active then.
We'll also be setting up 5 days photoworkshops in 2018.
Above the Arctic Circle
Vesterålen is located above the arctic circle at 68 degrees north. The wide range of landscapes makes Vesterålen a perfect place for photographing and nature experiences. From astonishing fjords between ragged mountains to wild forest and stunning tundra marshes, this is an intriguing landscape.
