Why We Have Leap Year and Leap Day …
February 29, 2020 -- Everywhere
This year February has 29 days and that extra day is called Leap Day. Our calendar normally has 365 days in a year, but to be precise it takes 365 days, five hours, 48 minutes and 46 seconds for the earth to get around the sun. So what's the big deal? ‘Officials’ couldn’t just let those extra 6 hours slide if calendars were going to mean anything. Allow those six hours a year to build up over a few hundred years, and you’d have spring starting in June. Humans have been accounting for this discrepancy as far back as the ancient Egyptians who added an extra day to their calendar every four years. The current Leap Day tradition can be traced back to Pope Gregory in the 1500’s, who corrected an earlier calendar set by Julius Caesar (who spent some serious time in Egypt with a young lady named Cleopatra). As Egyptian astronomy got more precise, Roman calendars added an extra day every four years. Leap years always coincide with the summer Olympics and the U.S. Presidential election. So much goes on in a leap year, we need the extra day, but the simple (and only) explanation for why we have leap year is that it takes 365.2422 days for our planet to complete one revolution around the sun. Cleo may have gotten Caesar’s head to spin, but even Cleopatra couldn’t get the Earth to spin faster for just one day a year.

Spamilton: An American Parody

This “convulsively funny” (NY Times) parody was created, written, and directed by 
Gerard Alessandrini, the comic mastermind behind the long-running hit “Forbidden Broadway.” After tearing it up in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, Spamilton: An American Parody is staging a singing, dancing, comedy revolution in Orlando till March 5. “End of the Road - An Evening with Jack Kerouac" 
at Penguin Point in Oviedo Mall 
Feb 28 & Feb 29 at 7:30 pm 
This one-man show finds American literary legend Jack Kerouac in the green room of William F. Buckley’s “Firing Line,” drinking and arguing with his ghosts as he prepares to give his final televised appearance. He – and his ghosts – recall his life from the childhood loss of his brother to his failed marriages and on to taking care of his mother. “BEN-HUR”

“Last Train to Nibroc” by Arlene Hutton

The Three MUSKETEERS, from the novel by Alexandre Dumas

Este año, Febrero tiene 29 días y ese día adicional se llama Leap Day. Nuestro calendario normalmente tiene 365 días en un año, pero para ser precisos, la Tierra tarda 365 días, cinco horas, 48 minutos y 46 segundos en moverse alrededor del sol. ¿Así que cuál es el problema?
