Our Story

We are Suzy and Logan. We are twelve years old and have always wanted to start our own business. Recently, we enrolled in the Young Entrepreneurs Academy.  In the YEA! Program (Young Entrepreneurs Academy), we learned all the details on how to start a business, from the initial idea all the way to obtaining a business license. During the program we started a backpack business called SuziLlo Designer Backpacks. Why? Because our backpacks just weren’t good enough. They were heavy, not too durable, and not even waterproof. Once, Logan accidentally put her backpack in some apple juice and everything got soaked – and she had library books in there! Our backpacks also aren’t big enough for all our books – but even without books, they are too big to fit in our lockers.

Our new pack design is lightweight, comfortable, durable, and stylish. Our design and material choices allow our backpacks to also be water-resistant (so that you can be prepared for traveling through Southeast Asia and the Amazon, and for some of us, regular day life in Seattle) and expandable like a suitcase (to fit everything from books to souvenirs to computers…or all three). Our backpack can be used as a school backpack, a travel pack, or a daypack.

How did we make these cool packs? First, we had no idea how to get them made, so we thought that we would make them ourselves.  That didn’t work out so well. It ended up more like a hat or a balloon. We did a little research and found a great local place that makes prototypes for big companies like Jansport and Adidas. Part of their deal was that they make two prototypes, the first and the final, then they help us find a manufacturer - which was perfect, seeing as we had no idea where to even look for a manufacturer. The manufacturer they helped us find is Sunlight Sewing in Washington. We are proud to be utilizing and supporting a local business. 

Sunlight Sewing, a local manufacturer, produced our design last summer. They made one hundred of our packs, out of those one hundred we have sold around seventy. While we were raising money to get our packs manufactured, we went on Kickstarter, where we raised enough money to produce our first load.
