Postcard from Maker Faire New York
The Maker Faire New York is a striking place where people go to see amazing creations that inventors thought of and made by themselves. Held at a science museum in New York City, it is located in a big, flat field that is partially grass but also stone and pavement. Most of all the exhibits are under tents, in case it rains. It is a grand family event that inventors and families can go to learn, be entertained, and see creations that will blow their minds.
At the Maker Faire New York, there are many things to do, including interacting with a dragon that an organization at the Maker Faire made. I even saw two interested kids pressing some buttons that would tell you about the dragon himself. What is amazing is that at the Maker Faire there are wonderful projects that people created by thinking outside the box. Also, there are presentations that tell you many ways to create anything in the world, from making a little Lego car to making your own tablet.
But there is more to Maker Faire than presentations. Cool things to watch include RC flying aircraft that creators have fun battles with – it is entertaining. Other than electronics and presentations, there are exhibits about scientific discoveries that are known worldwide, such as the Mars Rover. There are also environmental projects, such as statues made entirely out of bottles.
The thing that interested me the most was a holographic projector. This projector changes frames about 100 times per second, and because of this, it displays a holographic image in the air. There was even a piano that was made out of bananas - I have no idea how they did it!
All of these projects were made by ordinary people; all of these creations are amazing.
Many people come to this Maker Faire - but luckily for us, there is more than just one - they are held all over the world. There are also mini Maker Faires, where you can also go to see cool projects.
Have you been to a Maker Faire? What was your favorite part?
