The Street Child International Teacher Training Programme
Do something adventurous this summer: volunteer your skills in West Africa
"Education is a human right with immense power to transform."
- Kofi Annan
The Street Child International Teacher Training Programme will give you a chance to get hands-on with education work, travel to some of the most remote parts of Sierra Leone and Liberia, and discover beautiful West Africa.
If you’re looking for something new and exciting this summer, our international teacher training programme is a great way to volunteer your skills and help to unlock the potential of thousands of the world’s poorest children. We are inviting qualified teachers to travel to West Africa for the adventure of a lifetime.
In rural areas of Sierra Leone and Liberia, many children are unable to access education. Our local teachers are inspiring and resourceful, but they often only have basic education themselves. For two weeks, you can join Street Child to volunteer with a team of teachers in Sierra Leone or Liberia to help train and mentor your West African counterparts.
What will you be doing?
Since 2010, Street Child have helped over 17,000 children in rural communities across Sierra Leone to go to school and trained over 400 teachers. We believe in long-term solutions to help children go to school long-term. As a volunteer teacher, you will support our amazing local partners, helping to make a long-lasting impact.
Travelling out to Sierra Leone or Liberia on 28th July or 11th August, you will spend two weeks running workshops helping to build the confidence of local teachers. Staying in local communities and working closely with local staff, you will get to discover real West Africa. What’s more, you can extend your trip to relax on palm-fringed beaches and chill out before the start of the next school term.
"The International Teacher Training Program with Street Child is a fantastic opportunity for teachers in the US to work alongside teachers in Sierra Leone and Liberia. It is a wonderful way to learn from one another, share good practice and experience a new culture." Felicia Dahlquist, Street Child Liberia
Did someone say CPD?
By supporting the development of others, you’ll grow your own confidence in the classroom. You’ll have a chance to self-reflect on your teaching practice. If you’re a recently graduated teacher, this is a great chance put it all into practice before you get into a classroom. What’s more, you’ll be working alongside a team of teachers from all over the world, exchanging knowledge and experiences to share with your class back home.
If this sounds like your kind of adventure, join us to challenge yourself, discover new places, and gain a new perspective!
