Today I am writing about one of the most popular islands of the Stockholm archipelago, Sandhamn. Sandhamn has about 100 permanent residents that live all year on the island and the island gets about 100,000 visitors annually. During the summer, the number of residents increases to about 3,000, making it very crowded! I have had the opportunity to go both in the winter and the summer months. Naturally summer is more exciting and fun as there is more going on and you can enjoy time by the sea soaking up some sun and then meet up with friends for a drink and dinner.

Last summer I had the wonderful opportunity to go sailing with a friend and her dad and another friend. Our journey started out in Stockholm and we slowly sailed away towards the island of Finnhamn, which we reached later the same evening. Finnhamn is located in the northern archipelago and is a very popular island, which is served year round via ferry.

Visiting Santiago de Compostela, Spain

Security screening at Madrid’s airport resulted in a two-hour layover and a missed connecting flight to Vigo.  When I finally arrived amid a spring deluge, my host was nowhere to be found.  A stone’s throw from the Atlantic, the airport was half empty.  The silence felt like a heavy cloak as I hurried to the baggage claim area.

These photos were taken in Tarragona, Spain. This is a traditional “castell” that is built at festivals in Spain. It’s basically a human pyramid on steroids.

A Taste of Vienna’s Christkindlmarkt

Cloves. Citrus. Almonds. Hazelnuts. A hint of cinnamon. Those smells seem to come back to me every time I think of the Vienna Christkindlmarkt (literally translated, “Christ child market”).

Skiing isn't just for humans

For many, winter is synonymous with ski season. The good news for ski buffs who travel with their pets is that hundreds of resorts and lodges throughout the United States and Canada are very pet friendly.
