Vancouver International Children’s Festival
May 17 – 24, 2010
Make sure to be a part of the 33rd Annual Vancouver International Children’s Festival. Tickets go on sale at 10:00am on Monday, March 22nd at Ticketmaster.
Jam-packed with music, theatre, dance, storytelling, puppetry, circus arts and much more, the Vancouver International Children's Festival embodies the buoyant spirit and endless curiosity of children all over the world.
The National Acrobats of Taiwan deliver a breathtaking display of tumbling, spinning, dancing and death-defying feats. Refreshingly quirky and rivetingly musical, Quebec’s Michel Lauzière will have you in stitches from start to finish. Circus Incognitus is Cirque du Soleil veteran Jamie Adkins, who dazzles in his one-man tour-de-force as he uses everyday objects and
discarded props to attempt acrobatic feats with hilarious results.
A wealth of theatre shows find fun new ways to tell familiar stories. Based on the well-known book by Robert Munsch and Michael Kusugak, both of whom have performed at our festival, A Promise is a Promise is brought to life by Rag & Bone Puppet Theatre. A quick-paced and slightly off-kilter adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s classic Alice In Wonderland sparks the imagination in a set that resembles a pop-up book, by Quebec’s Théâtre Tout à Trac.
Vancouver’s Axis Theatre brings King Arthur’s Kitchen, Dufflebag Theatre presents an improv Peter Pan, and Matthias Kuchta from Germany presents The Princess and the Pea with near life-sized puppets. We have new stories to tell, through Kellie Haines and her puppet friends Kamilla the frog and Magrau the bird as they embark on a journey into outer space to a
mysterious planet in A Space to Play, and Théâtre Motus performs Baobab en français at École Secondaire Jules-Verne on May 21.
Tickets are disappearing fast for Charlotte Diamond and the Hug Bug Band. You can also meet the new generation of children’s entertainers with award-winning Bobs & Lolo and the world music of Joie d’Afrique. Dancers from Vancouver’s Aché Brasil and the Gitskan ensemble Dancers of Damelahamid celebrate two different and very rich cultures.
