Calico Ghost Town is located off I-15 between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.  It is an ideal break-point for tourists and visitors to see something outside of the bright lights, big city atmosphere.  In fact, Calico is like stepping into a time warp, or onto the set of an old Western movie.  The old mining town was once the scene of the largest silver strike in California’s history; and the towns’ charm still attracts people who want to tap into its history and the lore that has grown around it.

            On Saturday, September 4th, the draw will be to stick around the town after normal park hours when Calico will stay open past normal closing time.  The fun begins at 5:30 p.m., as Calico celebrates summer’s end with music, gunslingers and movies.

            Texas House Party, a Country-Western band out of Los Angeles, will bring their cowboy boogie meets Western swing style to the town’s Main Street.  Guns of the Roundtable, a gunslinger group, will do a little re-enacting demonstrating their pistol prowess.

            As night falls, Calico Ghost Town will bring excitement to the cinematic experience.  For children and young families, Calico Ghost Town will present, for the first time, Movies on the Rocks --  a series of animated and live-action short films screened right on the rocks!  Calico will also show the action-packed “3:10 to Yuma” starring Russell Crowe and Christian Bale on a jumbo screen in the Silver Bowl area for a movie under the stars experience. ”3:10 to Yuma” has been edited for general audiences.   CommCinema, a Southern California company bringing innovative outdoor movie experiences to audiences throughout the Southwest, will produce this screening event.

            Keith Lee, Director, San Bernardino County Regional Parks said, “We are excited to offer a full evening of live performance and movies at Calico Ghost Town.  This is something very special for this area and it will give locals as well as tourists to our park an opportunity to experience films in a vastly different setting.  The children are sure to enjoy watching cartoons and shorts projected right onto the rocks!  Having this type of topography at Calico Ghost Town really sets us apart from other venues.” 

              The Calico House Restaurant is offering a $9.95 chicken dinner special ($7.95 children 12 and under) as well as their buffet. Parking will be $10 throughout the day September 4th only.  There is no additional admission fee for the evening event.  Patrons are encouraged to bring low-back lawn chairs and blankets for viewing comfort.
