Stockholm's Archipelago: Finnhamn
Last summer I had the wonderful opportunity to go sailing with a friend and her dad and another friend. Our journey started out in Stockholm and we slowly sailed away towards the island of Finnhamn, which we reached later the same evening. Finnhamn is located in the northern archipelago and is a very popular island, which is served year round via ferry.
During the summertime you will find a large restaurant/cafe where you can enjoy a nice dinner by the sea or just sit down for an evening drink. The location of the restaurant is beautiful, right on the sea overlooking the water making it a perfect way to end a long day lounging by the sea. There is also a summer store which sells groceries including local handicrafts from the archipelago.
Another unique spot to enjoy an evening meal is in The Boathouse, while you listen to live music playing. We did not eat there but walked by as the sun was setting and sat down on the rocks and enjoyed the music we heard coming from The Boathouse, a great way to enjoy some live music!
Since not everyone is fortunate enough to sail into Finnhamn or own a boat for that matter, there are plenty of alternatives for accommodation suiting everyone's budget. You will find a large hostel as well as various cottages, sea cabins, and the possibility to camp both outside and in "camp" like structures. After enjoying three relaxing and sun filled days on this island, I can say that I highly recommend it and it is a great starting point to continue on if you enjoy island hopping!
