Foodie Finds: Royal Pig Pub and Kitchen
Foodie Finds: Royal Pig Pub and Kitchen...Beyond Your Typical Pub Fare
Las Olas Boulevard in downtown Fort Lauderdale is chock full of restaurants and outdoor cafes that come and go. But if you want a really fresh, yet casual meal with great service in an independent restaurant with a hip atmosphere, check out the Royal Pig Pub and Kitchen.
You can dine at the bar at the Royal Pig Pub or just have a cocktail
The Executive Chef, who once worked for Emeril Lagasse, brings his New Orleans touch to this independent eatery. You'll find everything from fresh seafood and cornbread to rotisserie chicken and parsnip mashed potatoes. And as the name suggests, there's plenty of pork and bacon served here. They even make their own sausage. The meats are all free range and many of the veggies are organic. There's a diverse list of entrees (from $19-$25) created to please every palate, that are served after 5 pm only. Libations include an impressive list of craft beers ($5.50-$7), wines and champagnes ($7 and up), and signature cocktails, including one called "The Fountain of Youth" ($10).
Cactus Burger with Sweet Potato Fries
The highlight of my family's lunch today was the Cactus Burger ($14) piled high with Smoked Gouda, Poblanos, and Guacamole, served with Sweet Potato Fries. I had the Organic Kale Salad ($11) and it was heavenly with toasted Pine Nuts, Currants, and a tangy Lemon Dressing. We asked for an order of Cornbread ($7) and the waiter told us it is only available at dinner time, however he returned to the table to let us know the chef was happy to make an exception. It is baked in an iron skillet and comes with a side of sweet, incrediblly delicious dipping sauce that tastes like it has honey in it. You've got to try an order of the Organic Fries ($10) made with Truffle Oil.
Organic Kale Salad with Lemon Vinaigrette
The waiter stopped by our table regularly to see if we needed anything and to make sure our glasses of water were full, even though a big bottle of crystal clear chilled water was left on the table. In addition to the great service, we sat at an oversized, comfortable booth with our own flat screen TV, where we leisurely watched a golf tournament. The mood of the Royal Pig isn't hectic like many downtown bistros, so you won't feel rushed. With the delicious food, great service, and trendy atmosphere, you'll want to frequent this place often with family and friends.
outside dining is available, too
