Here are 5 of the top things to do while on your visit to Sanibel Island, Florida.
1. Periwinkle Way. Looking to shop, dine, or relax? Periwinkle Way (also known as Periwinkle Place) is just the place for you then, offering many different stores, restaurants, and even spas to visit. Walk along their beautiful covered boardwalk, experience the butterfly garden and two tropical fountains, or even take the kids to the children’s play area.
2. Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum. As the saying goes, “Knowledge is food for the soul.” Visit this museum to learn all about the sea treasures that rest along these sandy shores. Although small, Bailey-Matthews will leave you filled with knowledge. The Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission ranges from $4 to $7, dependent on age; children ages 4 and younger can enter for free. shellmuseum.org

3. Bowman’s Beach. All this talk about shells is sure to get you eager to find your own. Bowman’s Beach is known for its amazing, and unique shells. Although you may have to search for these beauties, we promise you it will be worth it when you find a gem like the Florida Fighting Conch. If you want to park by the shore, make sure to bring some money with you, there is a $2 an hour parking fee.

4. Captiva Island; Sanibel’s sister island. Captiva offers many of the same luxuries that Sanibel does. Captiva Island has more dining options than Sanibel, and its nightlife is more vibrant. After spending a day at the beach in Sanibel, drive over to Captiva for a nice dinner, than watch the sunset along Captiva beach. But don’t forget to bring bug spray if you plan to stay out after dark!

5. Sanibel Lighthouse. This lighthouse was one of the first lighthouses on Florida’s gulf coast. This iconic landmark is a must-see while in Sanibel. With Periwinkle Way less than a mile, you can easily stop by the lighthouse on your way to the outlet mall.
