Some things to do in Tuscany with your KIDS
This article is from the official tourism website of Tuscany, http://turismo.intoscana.it, who is generously sharing this tip with Wandering Eds. In combination with a trip that will surely involve many museums and churches, be sure to take the time to do something that is pure KID.
Tuscany has all sorts of amusement parks and other destinations for its youngest visitors. Many of its museums have child-friendly themes and some - notably the Palazzo Strozzi in Florence - provide special programming for children in English on a regular basis.
Among the theme parks in Tuscany one of the most appreciated by both young and old is the Pinocchio Park near Collodi - a huge area dedicated to the famous puppet located near the birthplace of his creator, Carlo Lorenzini. The Pinocchio Park lies in Collodi’s old village which has remained that of a century ago. It still hosts its characteristic group of houses that are nestled in the hills behind the Villa Garzoni and its scenic eighteenth century garden. It was here that the writer Collodi, (Carlo Lorenzini) spent his childhood. This is the place where the imaginary adventures of Pinocchio originated. Opened in 1956, this park is not a traditional amusement park; it represents the collective works of myriad artists who have helped make the area just like a fairy tale. In this fun and spontaneous environment, visitors can enjoy the quiet beauty of art and nature. You can read more about Collodi here: http://tinyurl.com/mwf9q5
Tuscany's amusement parks range from the traditional (and not so) rides, to water parks, to miniature sports centers with soccer fields, basketball courts and mini-golf. Created for children, these parks are excellent destinations for families on vacation who want to spend a fun day with their children.
