Looking for your summer trifecta of delightful coffee drinks? Well, one of our favorite roasters, Fire Dept. Coffee (read our interview with them here, to learn the backstory of this great company!) has some tasty new roasts...and, in addition to their global coffee club, a new and VERY tasty spirit infused coffee club. 

We love the mission of this special, veteran-owned, fire-fighter-run roaster, as well as their plethora of coffee offerings. They support heroes in need through the Fire Dept. Coffee Foundation, where 10% of net proceeds are donated to help provide essential resources and assistance to first responders who have been injured on the job, mentally or physically, or who are facing other serious health challenges.

We were lucky enough to try three of their latest coffees!

Here are the flavors we loved...and how we crafted the perfect summer coffee drinks at home.

Donut Shop

A dark medium roast with beans sourced from Central and South America, this smooth coffee has a full-bodied profile that is perfect for cold brew; my dad enjoyed the quart I brewed for him more quickly than the 24 hours it took to make. That's high marks, in his book! My mom, when having a steaming hot cup of freshly brewed, wished she'd had a donut to go with, and said, "It tasted fresh..it's just the kind of coffee you want to wake up to." 

Light Roast

A light roast that leans a bit toward medium, this is my perfect breakfast roast. With beans sourced from Honduras and Colombia, it is a beautiful medley of sweet and savory, and just the right amount of flavor for a beautiful cup. The best part is, it’s versatile. From an espresso to served with cake, it will warm your soul no matter what. But, this is my 1# choice of coffee for a fresh, hot chemex of morning goodness in the cool of dawn, before summer's heat breaks through.

Limited Edition Peach Bourbon Spirit Infused 

FDC's spirit-infused line of coffees includes Bourbon, Whiskey, Rum, and Tequila. This is gorgeous. A new, mature look at coffee. Imagine yourself on a sunny autumn day, sitting outside while leaves fall around you. This coffee invokes that sensation. It left me feeling cozy and wrapped up in warmth, even in summer.

I paired a hot moka pot of peachy bourbon goodness with some fresh churned coffee ice cream to make a refreshing affogato (it was so good, I made another one right after!).
