The Best Iced Coffee Maker in the World, No Lie
Anyone who is even casually acquainted with me knows that I. LOVE. COFFEE. So, I tend to perk up when a new coffee gadget arrives on the scene, or I discover a new, small batch coffee roaster.
Enter Dripo, a Japanese-style iced coffee maker that is small, fast, and unique. I can honestly say that this makes the best iced coffee I have ever had. It makes the smoothest iced coffee - I can't stop making it (several a day) and recommending it to all my friends.
Here's why I love it:
* It's portable. Yes, make and take. Dripo has even have made iced coffee on an AIRPLANE. Don't have time in the morning? Make one and bring it with you.
* It's smooth. I can't tell you enough how smooth this coffee is. It takes coffee to the next level - no acidity, just a silky taste and tranquil finish.
* It's fast - a two-hour finish time means that I can make it in the morning, when I start my chemex, and then drink it after I finish that pot. And, after that first batch, I start a second (decaf, don't worry!) dripo for the late afternoon.
* Cold brew has never tasted so delicious to me. I've tried them all - both ways of making it, and store-bought. Hands down, this is the only way I'll drink cold brew coffee now.
Tips:
Here are my tips for success with the dripo:
* Be sure to wash the water container with hot water, soap, and use a scrub brush to gently clean the drip part (on both sides). This is where any gunk in your water will get stuck.
* Use filtered water. Our city water has minerals that clog the drip part. Use filtered water for your ice cubes, too.
* If you don't see a drip when you fill the water reservoir, repeat the cleaning process until you see a drip.
* If you put the dripo together and don't see any drips, unscrew the water reservoir a bit, and flip the lid, so that there isn't a tight seal.

We were lucky enough to catch up with Adam Anderson of Dripo, to learn the backstory, cold-brew coffee, and more. Here's what he had to say...
What inspired you to create Dripo?
I’ve been a long-time iced americano drinker; mostly because I’m somewhat clumsy and always seem to spill hot coffee on my shirt, and also because I live in Southern California where it is usually warm. When cold brew came around, it was fantastic. However, the 24 hour brew times and premium cost motivated us to look into a way to make it yourself at home as fast as possible.
What is your background in coffee?
When it comes to coffee specifically, I’m more of a super fan than an expert. I typically like Nicaraguan beans for cold brew because of their smoothness. The goal with Dripo was for it to work with any coffee bean you want.
What might readers be surprised to learn about cold-brew coffee and the Japanese style of cold brew, in particular?
That along the same time, the Dutch perfected a similar brew style so it is commonly referred to as Japanese or Dutch style cold brew. The main difference is the coffee is extracted through slow drips, rather than full immersion.
Why cold brew?
The cold brew process also has fewer acids, is easier to digest, and has a bit more caffeine. All in all, it’s a fantastic product.
What's up next for you?
We’re working on a larger version of the Dripo, making some incremental improvements, and are working one some top secret new products for the cold beverage community :).
