Foodie Finds: Penne Restaurant, A Perfect Dining Experience
Penne Restaurant, A Perfect Dining Experience
If you find yourself in Philadelphia’s University City area, be sure to make a dinner reservation at Penne Restaurant.
The restaurant is spacious, modern and comfy. (Ask for a table in front of the window so you can do some people-watching.) And what I really love is that it is quiet; I’m not a fan of loud dining rooms. The kitchen is open, and you can watch the flames soar as the chefs deglaze their pans. The menu offers sophisticated Italian fare, and it’s all delicious. The portions are perfectly moderate, so it was a pleasure leaving the restaurant without feeling uncomfortably stuffed.
If you are a wine connoisseur, you’ll have a large selection to choose from. The meal started with a basket of warm bread and some dipping sauces. My husband enjoyed a specialty seafood pasta which included a tomato bread tart appetizer and dessert, all for $25. I had a mozzarella and tomato appetizer followed by cavatelli pasta made from ricotta cheese with a vibrant tomato sauce made, and they were scrumptious. My daughter enjoyed the best cedar planked salmon she ever had. And dessert – ricotta cheesecake and flourless chocolate tarts with vanilla ice cream and the sweetest cherries I've ever tasted. Need I say more?
