Central Park: Solitude and Grace in the Heart of America’s Largest City

Central Park: Solitude and Grace in the Heart of America’s Largest City

After taking a recent trip to NY a week ago and spending the better part of a perfect day in Central Park, I actually forgot I was in a noisy city. The weather was perfect, and I was able to run around on the soft grass with my niece and nephew and sit under a shady tree. Upon my return I was inspired to learn more about our nation’s largest urban oasis.

We had such fun playing at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts this week! They have a small collection of art from all periods, and currently have a Georgia O'Keefe exhibit. BUT! the best part was the ARTworks interactive gallery! This is "A special place for young visitors! "Paint" with virtual paint on a giant computer screen. Change the colors in a work of art with a computer. Enjoy books, blocks, drawing and more!" The KIA is located in downtown Kalamazoo, Michigan.

When many travelers think of Germany, they think of Berlin and Munich or the Rhine wine country, but there are other wonderful cities and states to visit, and Stuttgart and the state of Baden-Württemberg should be on the list. It is on the border of the Black Forest (Schwarzwald) region and is a business center for the auto industry and the U.S. military. There is plenty to see in the Stuttgart area and it’s an easy city to travel in and out of to see other parts of Baden-Württemberg. Here are some notes from my recent trip to the area.

On our recent trip to the Twin Cities, we had the good fortune to go explore and play at the Science Museum of Minnesota. This is one of my very favorite museums, and I am so happy that we are able to share it with you!

When we were visiting the Wisconsin Dells a few weeks ago, we were surprised at the vast array of food offered to visitors. However, upon closer inspection, much of this food seemed more chain-restaurants and old-time diners. We were lucky enough to find three great restaurants - and a coffee shop! - that espouse fresh, organic ingredients, great service, local suppliers, and more.

Swimming with the Manatees in Florida

This month, we're focusing on ways to explore nature in Florida, specifically through dolphin and manatee encounters. One cool manatee exploration is called Captain Mike's Swimming with the Manatees. A very reasonably-priced experience, Captain Mike's offers three different tours to experience manatees first-hand. We were lucky enough to sit down and talk with Captain Mike - here's what he had to say...

Zealand's biggest city, Auckland, is one of the South Pacific's premier coffee locations thanks to its great diversity of independent cafes and the ability to roast a great bean. This month, our NZ editor offers up his five favourite places to find good espresso in the City of Sails.

For Photo Fridays at Delicious Baby (travel photos from around the world), our daughter decided to post about her trip last weekend to Sleeping Bear Dunes, on Lake Michigan.  The dunes are located just north a bit from Frankfort, Michigan. Here's what she had to say...

Last weekend, we went to Sleeping Bear Dunes. Have you been there? It is close to our cottage, so we drove there. Come along!
