Dog Meets World Foto of the Week: Returning to Costa Rica

Anna Myers returned to the village Los Angeles de Nandayure, Guanacaste, Costa Rica almost a year after finishing her Peace Corps commitment there. While in Costa Rica in the Peace Corps she met and fell in love with Anibal Rodriguez-Alvarado. They married and have settled in Washington DC. On their first return trip, they included time for the Dog Meets World project and took and printed on-the-spot 50 photos of the local children (one shown here).

Some young people are unbelievably generous with their time, are almost born altruists. Meet Samm Coffin, a study abroad student at Stellenbosch University, outside of Cape Town, South Africa. While adjusting to a foreign country and taking a full load of courses Samm immediately volunteered to help make a difference including working at an afterschool program and taking hundreds of pictures for Dog Meets World (DMW) at Kayamandi.

Patti Hughes and her husband like to travel and discover new places and people...both for fun and for inspiration for her company Natural Life. She first took her three daughters, ages 8, 10 and 12 abroad to Guatemala over spring break. Patti described that "It was so rewarding to be able to interact in a meaningful way and to give local children and families a treasured photo and to experience a little part of their world. My children enjoyed interacting with with the children and learning how different their lives are.

“Merci, merci” was the refrain heard when volunteers with Dog Meets World took and printed up pictures for the entire school in Ibo Beach, supported by Haiti Outreach Ministries, along the coast about an hour from Port-au-Prince in Haiti. Most of the students had never had a photo of themselves and for sure not in their school uniforms. We in the USA take for granted our access to documenting our (school) lives in photos.

Marti Johnson is a recent college grad currently living and working at St. Mary Kevin Orphanage, a facility home to over 150 orphans in Kampala, Uganda. Marti's passion for photography led her to develop Project Perspective, a program to teach photography to the children in order to provide the world with a new perspective of African youth.
