The World's Largest Buffalo, Dakota Thunder
Nestled in North Dakota, overlooking the city of Jamestown, you’ll find the World’s Largest Buffalo. Made of steel beams, wire mesh, stucco, and cement, Dakota Thunder stands at twenty-six feet tall and weighs in at sixty tons. Standing atop a concrete slab, he awaits tourists from all over for a great photo opportunity.
Next to this roadside attraction, you’ll find an old western town, with interactive stops such as a pharmacy, a jail, and a school house. This spot also includes the National Buffalo Museum, which has an admission charge while the rest of the attraction is free.
My mother, sister, and I were driving down Interstate-94 between the Dakota Zoo in Bismark and the Red River Zoo in Fargo when we saw billboards advertising this majestic attraction, Dakota Thunder. We decided to stop and check it out. It was a great place to get out of the car, stretch, and have a picnic. The gift shop was splendid as well. We chose to not pay a fee to visit the museum, so I cannot vouch for that. If you’re interested in Buffalo or in World’s Largest (fill in the blank), it is worthy of stopping but I wouldn’t go too far out of the way.
