Faces pass as you are venturing down the square in the tiny town: Ozark, Missouri. You catch a glimpse of the restaurants, antique shops, a court house, and an old city museum.  To a city-slicker, this could mean nothing; but, anyone with an eye for adventure it’s perfect.

The main attraction in the square is the courthouse.  Blossoming with history, the court house was built in 1919.  The courthouse you see today was built 54 years after the previous courthouse in Ozark had been burned to the ground by a felon who hoped to escape his prosecution.  The courthouse became home for other things, including a source in the 1800’s for hanging criminals.  The most memorable public hanging at the courthouse was the execution of three bald-knobbers, a southwest Missouri vigilante group who ran around during the late 1800’s.  Now the courthouse is a place to reminisce about the past, and still works as a courthouse.

Venturing deeper into the square, restaurants spring up more often, along with barber shops and other antique stores.  Taking a relaxing break, it is common to stop and get a drink.  Ben’s On The Square supplies just that. Our journey took a break right here, to snag a delicious chocolate shake.  Back on the trail, our path soon brought us to the Ozark Mill.

The shiny, metallic structure glimmers in the sunlight.  The Ozark Mill, not in use anymore, serves as a beautiful monument in Ozark. At one point in time, the water mill created electricity for the city of Ozark, now the mill provides a breathtaking view, a marvelous place to take pictures and catch a breath of fresh air.  Located just next to the park, the Ozark Mill. 

In reality, Ozark Missouri is just a dot on the map.  When taking the time to stop and smell the roses, you will see that Ozark provides an adventure packed day.  Something anyone would be proud to call their hometown.
